Affordable Housing

Affordable Housing is a subsidized rental program. It provides housing to singles, couples, families, and seniors who have a low or modest income.  Program funding comes from the federal and provincial governments.  In this program, tenants pay rent based on a percentage of their income.

To qualify, applicants must be Canadian Citizens, independent landed immigrants, or government-sponsored landed immigrants. Assets and belongings cannot exceed $25,000.  Total gross household income cannot be more than the income limits are based on community and on the number of bedrooms you are eligible for housing.

Applicants must provide verification of current household income. Acceptable landlord references and/or credit checks are required. All applicants 18 years of age and older may be required to pass a criminal records check before they move in.

Westwinds Communities has a variety of one, two and three bedroom accommodations available for tenants.  The housing options include apartments and four-plexes homes. Please note that none of these housing units are wheelchair accessible.  Housing options are available in High River and Okotoks.

Rent and Other Charges

Tenants pay rent based on 30% of their gross income. Rent includes heat and water. They also pay a security deposit equal to their first month’s rent.  Tenants must arrange and pay for their own:

  • Electricity 
  • Phone 
  • Cable TV 
  • Internet
